Founded September 17th, 1982, with the help of many friends, Scoreboard Pub opened its doors with the idea of providing a social environment centered around sport viewing and recreational sport activity. Long before the sports bar craze of the early 1990’s, Scoreboard offered an excellent viewing forum as well as sponsored many local recreational events.
Both founding partners grew up in the Federal Way area, graduated from Federal Way High School, and continue to support the community and the area in which they grew up. Scoreboard continues to provide support for both adult and youth programs, and has since its inception.
In the early days of the Scoreboard, you could get a roast beef or turkey sandwich to accompany your Bud, Rainier or (new at the time) Bud Light. Every Wednesday, the pool tables would be emptied and hopefully the money would cover payroll and/or rent. Without the support of the many regular patrons that support the Scoreboard, especially in its early years, the Scoreboard could have easily been just another government statistic.
On March 6th, 1989, Scoreboard moved from its original location (one block east), and brought those old pool tables along, in order to facilitate a growing food and beverage service. In 1989, food service meant more than sandwiches and domestic beer; it now meant burgers, pizza, sandwiches, domestic beer and a choice of 2 or 3 microbrews. But, in 1989’s new facility, Scoreboard could offer more viewing choices and accommodate more patrons during and following recreational events, plus room for growth.
Today’s Scoreboard Pub has grown well past the level of food and beverage offerings provided by most inner city bar and grills and past the level of offerings of most restaurants. In terms of events, the Scoreboard has maintained a tradition of continually offering fun distractions, from recreational events held locally to Austrian ski trips, Caribbean cruises and golf excursions.
Today’s menu owes its creativity to the Scoreboard Pub Staff. Both the food and the beverage selections have been compiled by a staff that is willing to stay on top of the most popular trends circulating throughout the hospitality industry. Scoreboard Pub ownership believes that without input from Scoreboard’s staff and patrons, regarding all facets of the Scoreboard’s business, the business itself could not be successful.
